📢 Another Announcement!
Opening up paid subscriptions so I don't end up like the picture below.
First of all, a giant thank you to all my wonderful subscribers for continuing to open these newsletters each week. Since May 2023 I have published 100 posts on the fabulous food and festivals of Spain, and there is still so much to write about!
One of the many things I’ve learned over these years is how deeply entrenched festivals are in the life of Spaniards – how they represent cultural identity as well as a celebration of generational tradition and community spirit. They are a genuine expression of human creativity!
I hope to continue sharing what I’m learning, but to be able to dedicate the hours of research needed for these posts, I am opening up F&F to paid subscriptions.
Did you know that in the UK, the median earnings from self-employed writing are just £7,000 per year. That’s less than what I imagine a professional queue-stander makes in London. 💰
Unfortunately, passion doesn’t always pay the bills. Which is why many writers rely on the generosity of readers like you to keep the words flowing!
So, beginning in March 2025, I’m introducing a paid subscription option for those who’d like to support my work. This will be completely optional, and all my posts will remain free for everyone (for now).
For £5/month or £50/year you will be helping F&F grow and spread appreciation of the culture and history of this fascinating country to readers all over the world.
To give some context, that is cheaper than a four-pack of Stella in the UK, a large decaf almond milk flat white in Sydney’s northern suburbs, the cost of a Bear and Strawberry Tree souvenir in Madrid, and an egg in the US.
🍺☕🐻🥚
And, of course, you are free to cancel any time.
If a paid subscription is something you are unable to do right now, then I’d be grateful if you could support my writing by simply recommending, sharing, liking or commenting on the posts to help the algorithm find fresh eyeballs.
This year I will be offering e-books to paid subscribers related to the food, history, and culture of Spain, as well as the occasional fictional piece, beginning with a short story I have recently published on Kobo called Meiga, set in rural Galicia at the start of the Civil War where the ancient traditions of a small village are threatened by the arrival of a modern stranger. 🧙
Muchas gracias a todos!!
Kim. 💃
